Fall Forum is back and we’re doing Trusts From A-Z. This series will discuss what to do when a client dies, the types of returns that need to be filed, forms to be completed, when to file a trust return, the different schedules for rentals, depreciation and the K1 for the personal tax return. This will be a 4-part series with 12 Fed hours and below are the Dates/Times.
IMPORTANT: Every class will be recorded and the materials will be available before and after class. If you miss a class, you will still receive the recording and materials, but you will not receive credit.

Helen has been a tax preparer for over 20 years and specializes in trust returns while acting as a professional fiduciary for some clients. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with other tax preparers about the ins and outs of trust tax preparation.
Jane Ryder, EA, CPA
Jane Ryder, EA, CPA has been providing tax preparation, accounting services, and tax collection resolution services since 1980. She runs her San Diego CPA firm and writes and speaks on many income tax, business compliance, and accounting topics. Jane has a business-centric practice, preparing and consulting on tax, accounting, and compliance matters for Corporations, S-corporations, LLCs, Partnerships, and Trusts. She also specializes in IRS and state agencies' collection problems, payment plans, audit representation, audit appeals, offers in compromise, and other compliance-related issues. She earned a BS in Business Administration (Accounting) from SDSU and is currently licensed with the California State Board of Accountancy and admitted to practice before the Internal Revenue Service as an Enrolled Agent.

Form 1041- Trusts & Estates Fundamentals
This course offers a practical understanding of trusts and estates reported on Form 1041 for grantor trusts, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, A/B trusts and more. Learn when a trust tax return is required, and to read the tax implications of common trust documents, also allocating income and expenses between the deceased and the trust or estate, reporting income and expenses to the beneficiaries of the trust, which expenses are deductible by the trust or estate, and special elections for trusts and estates. Review strategies related to distributing income and assets and dealing with difficult beneficiaries and other trust troubleshooting.

TRUSTS: Form 1041 Tax Preparation: Line by Line
This course offers two complete workshop examples of Form 1041, simple and complex trusts. We'll cover Form 1041 line by line for interest, dividends, tax free income, rental property, common trust and estate expenses and more. Including reporting income, expenses, and depreciation on Schedule K-1, and which expenses are deductible by the trust or estate. Plus, DNI and treatment of capital gains and charitable donations.
Learning Objectives:
1) Learn Form 1041 trust tax preparation line by line
2) Understand distributable net income (DNI) for a simple or complex trust
3) Learn steps to allocate income & expenses between the deceased, the trust, and beneficiaries if applicable.
