Session Description:
Tax preparers are often called upon to assist clients with closing or selling a business or transitioning to another form of business entity. Join us as we discuss the unique tax implications of closing and wrapping up the operations of different types of business entities or transitioning to a new type of business entity. What part of these processes should the tax preparer consider providing services for?  What should we stay away from? Perhaps a client’s occupational licensing matters are beyond the scope of our responsibilities. What steps can we take if we want to opt-out of any of these processes? What should we advise the client if they need help in this area? We’ll also share our Tax Compliance Business Closing or Transition Worksheet and some important content for engagement letters related to this topic.

Jane Ryder, EA, CPA

Jane Ryder, EA, CPA has been providing tax preparation, accounting services, and tax collection resolution services since 1980. She runs her San Diego CPA firm and writes and speaks on many income tax, business compliance and accounting topics. Jane has a business centric practice, preparing and consulting on tax, accounting, and compliance matters for Corporations, S-corporations, LLC’s, Partnerships, and Trusts. She also specializes in IRS and state agencies collection problems, payment plans, audit representation, audit appeals, offers in compromise, and other compliance related issues. She earned a BS in Business Administration (Accounting) from SDSU and is currently licensed with the California State Board of Accountancy and admitted to practice before the the Internal Revenue Service as an Enrolled Agent.
