Description:

Learn more about IRS due diligence to stay abreast of the proposed regulations. For most tax professionals, conducting due diligence is second nature and more than checking the boxes. Circular 230, found in Title 31 of the United States Code, contains the minimum ethical requirements tax practitioners are required to follow.

Speakers:

Lisa Hamilton is a Stakeholder Liaison in the Communication & Liaison Division Business/Self Employed Division. Her duties include working as a relationship manager for small business owners and the practitioner community. She has held various positions as an Appeals Officer for the Appeals Division, a Tax Compliance Officer for the Examination Division, and a Revenue Officer for the Collection Division. Lisa attended Cal State Los Angeles where she studied Accounting and Economics. She has utilized her skills as a presenter to various organizations and extensive volunteer efforts at VITA sites in the San Gabriel Valley.

 


Renato Izquieta
is an attorney admitted to the California State Bar in 1997 licensed to practice in State Court, Federal Court, and U.S. Tax Court. Renato Izquieta is the senior manager and Local Taxpayer Advocate for the Internal Revenue Service overseeing a team of advocates for the geographic areas of Orange County, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. He joined the Internal Revenue and the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate on July 6, 2020. The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an office independent of the IRS assisting and advocating on behalf of taxpayers to resolve IRS tax matters. Some of these issues include collection issues, audits, removal of tax liens, manual refunds, and other tax matters to reduce the burden on taxpayers. Before joining TAS, Renato Izquieta was the Self-Help Manager and Family Law Facilitator for the Superior Court of Orange County. In his capacity, he was responsible for six Legal Self-Help legal departments located in each of the Superior Court Justice Centers. He managed a staff of attorneys and paralegals assisting self-represented litigants with procedural information and assistance to increase access to the justice system. Renato Izquieta began his legal career in 1997 working for Legal Aid, both in the Inland Empire and Orange County. For 22 years, Renato Izquieta worked assisting the low-income community in various civil legal matters, including court representation. Legal Aid provides civil legal services to low-income individuals, elderly, homeless, and other vulnerable groups. At Legal Aid, Renato Izquieta was the Directing Attorney responsible for a team of attorneys and paralegals in the litigation unit. He managed several practice areas: family law, housing, IRS tax through the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, consumer defense, public benefits, health care, immigration, criminal expungement, and senior citizen advocacy. One of Renato Izquieta’s greatest passions is his work assisting homeless and veterans. He currently serves on the American Bar Association Commission on Homeless and Poverty and Veterans Legal Services. Renato Izquieta serves as adjunct faculty at Western State College of law, UC Irvine’s Paralegal Program, and at Irvine Valley College Paralegal Program. One of his accomplishments includes receiving the Humanitarian Person of the Year Award from the Orange County Superior Court.
