EDD: Cannabis Industry&State Payroll Taxes The presentation by the Employment Development Department’s Tax Branch focuses on the cannabis industry and state payroll tax regulations. Event attendees will learn about employers’ responsibilities when hiring employees. The presentation addresses the differences between common law employees, statutory employees and independent contractors as well as the consequences of misclassifying workers. Additional information will be provided about wages, the required payroll taxes and when and how to file quarterly payroll tax returns and wage reports.
