Topic: Tax Potpourri
This workshop will address several different tax topics, some of them as they are affected by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) which was passed by the House and the Senate in 2017. We will delve into new issues that face tax practitioners - such as the tax treatment of marijuana dispensaries and growers, and the deduction for qualified business income (QBI) code Section199A which allows up to 20% of QBI from partnerships, limited liability companies (LLCs), S corporations, trusts, estates, and sole proprietorships. We will also address the taxation and deductions for foreign earned income, taxpayers in the military, itemized deductions - particularly the ones that have been eliminated through the TCJA - a decedent’s final return, home office and other interesting tax items. For each of these we will discuss conformity - or non-conformity - as it relates to the State of California Taxation and Revenue Code.
