The Fall Tax & Accounting Forum will present a thorough look at partnerships and LLCs from both the accounting side and the tax side. The Forum will cover the formation of a partnership, the capital accounts and liabilities, and how to record them on the books. You will learn how partners are added or removed, and how distributions are recorded, then many of the same issues will be addressed from a tax perspective. Topics of special allocations & elections, and at-risk & passive limitations will also be covered.
The session will be in a workshop format with many examples and a comprehensive case study from accounting entries to financial statements to the tax return.

This course provides an overview of Partnership tax issues from the impact of formation and selection of partnership year to allocation of partnership income, expenses, and liabilities including partnership compensation, distributions and special allocations, as well as deducting partnership losses.  We will also cover adding partners, leaving partnerships, and the sale of a partnership vs redemption of an interest.

This class will cover the accounting side of partnerships. How do you set up the books? What about the partners’ capital accounts? How do you add a partner, or transfer a partnership interest to another partner? How do you record special allocations on the books? Can it be done in QuickBooks? We’ll use case studies to illustrate how to handle these situations and more. Plus, we’ll include a reference of journal entries for recording these transactions.

Linda Dong, EA, ABA

Linda Dong graduated with honors from the University of Illinois in Chicago with a degree in Accounting. She went to work for the IRS, where she received a very thorough training in taxes and began auditing corporations. Not liking the adversarial relationship inherent in tax audits, Linda left the IRS and started a tax and accounting practice from her home. She grew her practice to include four employees, but eventually downsized and is now once again a sole practitioner working out of her home office. She provides tax and accounting services to individuals, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations. 

Linda has been an Enrolled Agent (EA) licensed by the Department of the Treasury since 1982. Her credentials from the Accreditation Council of Accountancy and Taxation include Accredited Business Accountant (ABA) and Accredited Tax Advisor (ATA). She is a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and frequently teaches classes in accounting and tax to other professionals. A member of several tax and accounting professional groups, she is currently serving as President of the Wine Country Chapter of the California Society of Tax Consultants.

Lila Fedler, EA

Lila Fedler is a Franchise Tax Board spokesperson and serves as a Technical Assistant to the Advocate. Lila is an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service, and began her career with the Franchise Tax Board in 1980. Lila currently works directly with the Taxpayer Rights' Advocate to assure that the taxpayers have been afforded the protections of the Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights. With her more than 37 years, Lila has acquired a broad range of experience covering both personal income and corporation tax laws. In addition to her experience as a Franchise Tax Board Auditor, Protest Hearing Officer, and Audit Technical Specialist and Reviewer, she worked in the private sector as a Senior Manager in the state and local tax practice at a top public accounting firm, headquartered in the West, providing consulting services to public and private middle-market enterprises in many different industries.


Claudia Stanley, CPA, EA

Practicing CPA & EA in the Fresno area, owner of C. Stanley, CPA & Associates since 1991.  Graduate of California State University, Fresno. Serves on the boards of the Fresno Chapter of Society of California Accountants and American Business Women’s Association and is currently the president of the state Society of California Accountants. Long time member of the Central California Chapter of Enrolled Agents and California Society of Tax Consultants.  Named one of 2001 Top Ten Women of the Year by American Business Women’s Association.  From time to time speaks on various tax topics.

Refund Policy

Requests for refund must be made via email to [email protected]. $25 will be retained for administrative costs if the request is received prior to August 31, 2018. No refunds on requests received after August 31, 2018. Registration fees for no-show registrants are non-refundable. There is a $25 fee for returned checks.
