As the IRS Stakeholder Liaison area manager for California, I want to thank you for your past support and ask for your continued partnership with your local stakeholder liaisons and me. SL is proud to be in our seventh year as the practitioners’ gateway to the IRS. RTRP TESTING UPDATE

....The latest information about the Registered Tax Return Preparer test we launched in late November.

Hundreds of people have taken the test and a substantial number of others are scheduled in the upcoming weeks and months.

Based on this progress, we anticipate we will be able to provide test scores to those who have already tested and implement same day results by approximately March.

Form 2848 Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative, Revised October 2011

The IRS has once again revised Form 2848 – Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative. There are many changes to the new form, the most apparent being in Section 1 – no longer will we list a taxpayer and spouse on the same form. Each taxpayer will complete, sign & date a separate Form 2848. In discussions with my peers, it has been suggested this change was in line with innocent spouse provisions.
