Description:
“TAX PLANNING FOR THE SILVER TSUNAMI” - Level: General Nearly 75 million Americans make up the baby boomer generation, with about 3 million of them expected to hit retirement age every year through 2030. Advising these taxpayers on the tax moves to help them navigate this transition will be an important role for tax professionals for years to come. This course explores the five main sources of funding for retirement income, taxation issues related to each, and provides strategies to make the most effective use of the following: • Pensions and annuities Retirement plans Social Security & Medicare • Brokerage accounts Reverse mortgages

Presenter:
Rodney J. Couts, EA, has been a tax professional since 1987 and was admitted to practice before the Internal Revenue Service as an Enrolled Agent in 2004. He founded Seaside Resources, Inc. in 2005, a Carlsbad based tax preparation firm specializing in small businesses, real estate and individual taxation. He is a graduate of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in accounting. As a leasing specialist, Rod has contributed articles to Forbes and numerous other publications, and has appeared on television and radio including CNN and Fox. In 1998, Rod was recognized by former Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan for his contributions to the Federal Reserve Board’s Leasing Education Task Force. The Task Force developed information to better educate consumers about automobile leasing. Rod is the 2017‐2018 President of the California Society of Tax Consultants, past president of CSTC’s North San Diego County chapter and the recipient of CSTC’s 2015 Member of the Year Award. He is a regular presenter at the CSTC’s Summer Symposium and has delivered presentations to CSTC chapters across California, the California Society of Enrolled Agents, and the National Association of Tax Professionals.
