Federal Update:
2020 is a year for the
record books on so many fronts, but especially the tax arena. There is so
much to cover this year. The course will go over the numerous Federal chang
es for individuals and businesses impacting the 2021 filing season. The top
ics will include form changes, tax court cases, rulings and other IRS chang
es for 2020. The materials will have the latest amounts and limits for vari
ous deductions and credits.
California Update:
Find out what's new at the FTB: Marc Narlesky, Technical Assistant to the A
dvocate at the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) will describe services available f
rom the Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate’s Office when “normal channels fail.” He
will also talk about changes for the taxpayer, the practitioner and the FT
B that have occurred due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He will cover other topi
cs including but not limited to California Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC),
recent legislation changes, communicating with the FTB and other policies
and procedures that may be helpful to know for your practice.

Claudia Stanley, CPA, EA
Claudia Stanley is a practicing CPA & EA in the Fresno area, as partne
r in C. Stanley, CPA & Associates. She is a graduate of California Stat
e University, Fresno, and serves on the boards of the Central California Ch
apter of Enrolled Agents and Fresno chapter of American Business Women’s As
sociation. Claudia is a long-time member of the Central Valley Chapter of C
alifornia Society of Tax Consultants and was named their 2016 member of the
year. She was also named one of 2001 Top Ten Women of the Year in the nati
on by American Business Women’s Association. She frequently speaks on vario
us tax topics.

Marc Narlesky, CPA, Technical Assistant to the
Advocate - Taxpayers' Rights Advocate's Office
Marc is a Tech
nical Assistant to the Advocate in the Franchise Tax Board’s (FTB's) Taxpay
ers' Rights Advocate’s Office. He has been a member of the Advocate’s Offic
e since December 2015. Marc started with the FTB in 1989, working as an Aud
itor and Reviewer. He has held staff positions for divisional budgeting as
well as acting as a business lead for FTB's Activity Based Costing project
where he learned the operations of the department. Marc’s professional expe
rience began in public accounting. He has worked in general practice with a
multi-service firm and as a financial auditor of non-profit organizations.
Marc earned his Certified Public Accountant in 1992. He graduated from San
Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Admini
stration with an emphasis in Accounting and a minor in Industrial Technolog
y.
