nt books, and diapers are also welcomed. Enough essential items for a baby'
s first year are packed, labeled and then distributed by nurses and social
workers to low income, military, and disadvantaged families in underserved
areas."
We are very excited to again support this fantastic ch
arity!
The San Diego County Chapter is asking for your support at the Holiday b y making donations to Gently Hugged. Gently Hugged's mission is to collect and distribute donated clothing and blankets to babies in need. Cheryl Quac kenbush, the spouse of Gary Quackenbush of the San Diego Chapter, is instru mental in asking for your support of this most worthy organization.
G ently Hugged's founders, two nurses working in the field of public health, noticed first-hand how more and more families are struggling to acquire the basic necessities of life in today's economy. A new baby puts an added str ain on already limited resources and many babies lack appropriate items of clothing and blankets to stay warm and thrive during their crucial first ye ar of life.
On the other hand, babies in many other communities are f ortunate to have an excess of clothing during the course of their first yea r and many items are only worn once or twice or never used before they are outgrown.
Gently Hugged's goal is to provide a way to get these surpl us items into the arms of mothers with babies in need.
Donated gently used or new clothing in Preemie to 12-month sizes along with blankets and accessories (hats, socks , bibs) are being collected. Clothes are sorted and items of each size suff icient for the first year are placed in a box and labeled for a baby "boy" or "girl".
Multilingual educational materials related to SIDS and inf ormation on other prevention issues are also included with each package.
The completed boxes are then distributed by nurses and social workers t
o low income, military, immigrant, and foster families in need within under
served areas. Hospitals, prenatal clinics, social service agencies, and hom
es are typical delivery sites. Click here to see a
list of current distribution sites.
We will
be collecting infant clothes and infant items to donate to this incredible
local charity. Please join us in supporting Gently Hugged.
