The N orth San Diego County Chapter is asking for your support at the Holiday by making donations to Gently Hugged. Gently Hugged's mission is to collect an d distribute donated clothing and blankets to babies in need. Cheryl Quacke nbush, the spouse of Gary Quackenbush of the San Diego Chapter, is instrume ntal in asking for your support of this most worthy organization.
Gen tly Hugged's founders, two nurses working in the field of public health, no ticed first-hand how more and more families are struggling to acquire the b asic necessities of life in today's economy. A new baby puts an added strai n on already limited resources and many babies lack appropriate items of cl othing and blankets to stay warm and thrive during their crucial first year of life.
On the other hand, babies in many other communities are for tunate to have an excess of clothing during the course of their first year and many items are only worn once or twice or never used before they are ou tgrown.
Gently Hugged's goal is to provide a way to get these surplus items into the arms of mothers with babies in need.
Donated gently used or new clothing in P reemie to 12-month sizes along with blankets and accessories (hats, socks, bibs) are being collected. Clothes are sorted and items of each size suffic ient for the first year are placed in a box and labeled for a baby "boy" or "girl".
Multilingual educational materials related to SIDS and infor mation on other prevention issues are also included with each package.
< p>The completed boxes are then distributed by nurses and social workers to low income, military, immigrant, and foster families in need within underse rved areas. Hospitals, prenatal clinics, social service agencies, and homes are typical delivery sites. Click here to see a li st of current distribution sites. The name says it al l! Aerial hoops with yoga choreography will create a gravity-defying progra m right in the Twin Oaks Country Club Garden Ballroom. (FYI: That's the roo m where we have our monthly chapter meetings.)
