Thi s presentation will provide a guide to navigating the ever-changing tax pra ctice and procedures needed for tax practitioners to gain an understanding of how they can help their tax clients with their tax controversy issues. T opics covered will be centered around tax controversy changes in the midst of COVID-19, various credits and new IRS enforcement programs, penalties, a nd collections to name a few.
Ronson Shamoun is a San Diego tax attorney and a three-time graduate of the University of San Diego, receiving his Ba chelor of Arts (B.A.) in Accountancy, his Juris Doctor (J.D.), and his Mast er of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) degree there. He is a native San Diegan and has over 20 years of experience in the field of tax. He is the founder and CEO of RJS LAW, A Tax Law Firm. Mr. Shamoun’s practice involves federal and state taxation, with an emphasis on criminal tax defense, tax controversy, and international tax and estate planning.

Chandara Diep is Of Counsel for RJS LAW. She was the firm’s first hire and has been with RJS LAW from its transition from a solo practitioner int o a full-service law firm. Ms. Diep handles collection cases with the Inter nal Revenue Service (IRS), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA), and the Employment Development Depa rtment (EDD). Prior to her current role, Ms. Diep has worked in various pos itions at the firm. She obtained her paralegal certificate from the Univers ity of San Diego and completed her training at a local law firm in San Dieg o where she researched laws related to corporations and corporate tax legis lation. As a paralegal at RJS LAW, Ms. Diep handled the case management of the firm and assisted with hundreds of civil tax controversy cases involvin g the federal and state government, including audits, installment agreement s, offers in compromise, and penalty abatements. After graduating from law school, Chandara Diep became a Summer Associate at the firm and was recentl y made a Senior Associate. At her current position, Ms. Diep continues to s pecialize in federal and state tax controversy, international tax, and land lord/tenant disputes and is a key member of the team on many active cases.< /p>
