Topic: Cryptocurrency / Bitcoin

This topic will examine modern digital currency. What is It? When is It Taxed? Are there any reporting requirements? Tax season 2020 includes a cryptocurrency question on Schedule 1 of the tax return. A yes answer will result in you needing to include the activity on the tax return. You will discover the proper way to service your client who has cryptocurrency such as bitcoin. It is shaping up to be a growing market that (despite its pros and cons) is likely here to stay.

John G Miller, EA is President and CEO of the firm, Accounting for TAX, located in San Mateo, CA and has been in the tax business for over 22 years. He holds a BS in accounting from Colorado State University and previously served 12 years as a faculty instructor for the San Mateo Community College District. During those years he was an instructor for courses in accounting, taxation, real estate, retirement, and investing and responsible for conducting a VITA program. He is a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals, the National Society of Accountants, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California Society of Tax Consultants, San Francisco Chapter.
