Topic:

The panelists will be addressing due diligence and what a due diligence audit under the IRS Preparer Compliance Program entails. The panelist will discuss how tax return preparers should prepare for an audit as well as address the penalties that could be assessed and potential referrals to the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility.

Presenters:

Brendan O’Connor is a senior associate at RJS Law. Mr. O'Connor's practice centers on representing individuals and businesses before the Internal Revenue Service, Franchise Tax Board, Employment Development Department, and Department of Tax and Fee Administration. Mr. O’Connor has extensive experience in the field of tax controversy, litigation, and domestic and international tax planning.




Marisol Swadener
is a senior associate at RJS Law. Ms. Swadener represents individuals and entities before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Employment Development Department (EDD), and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). Ms. Swadener’s experience centers around collection matters and advising individuals and entities on how best to resolve their tax liabilities.



Joseph Cole
is an associate attorney at RJS Law. He represents clients before the IRS, FTB, CDTFA, EDD, and other taxing authorities. Joseph Cole holds an LL.M. in Taxation and earned his Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of San Diego School of Law. Prior to becoming a Tax Attorney, Joseph Cole was a Chemist and inventor.
