Topic:

On Friday, December 22, 2017, President Trump signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The Act provided the most comprehensive update to the tax code since 1986 and included a number of provisions of particular interest to partnerships and their partners. It became effective January 1, 2018, and did not affect 2017 taxes. Here's what happened: Congress dumped 500 pages of sloppy statutory language on the IRS who had to use this garbage to develop 184 pages of proposed regulations. These proposed regulations created as many questions as answers. So many that the IRS was inundated with over 330 comment letters from tax professionals and taxpayers. The IRS responded by issuing 274 pages of final regulations along with two key Revenue Procedures. In this session, we will review the TCJA in general, and the Section 199A pass-through deduction in detail. We will also concentrate on the final regulations issued by the IRS.
