Description:

Tax Reform created confusion and opportunity for the world of divorce. We will explore:
•Handling pre-2019 Alimony and Family Support
•Tax Options for Post 2018 Alimony and Family Support
•Analysis of “Tweener” Agreements – The Rushed Agreements to Beat 12-31-2018 deadlines.
•How to Understand & Defend Year-End Support Agreements
•Understanding Stock Options in Divorce
•How to Create Tax-Advantaged Agreements after 12-31-2018.
Using case studies, we will see how legal advice can turn into tax nightmares for couples. From a practical point, we will look at mistakes commonly found in Marital Settlement Agreements. We will discuss how tax professionals can find a niche market helping couples transition to life after divorce. We will explore business interests, real estate, and other asset interests in divorce. We will also look at conflicts of interest and how your position may be protected or compromised when it is your client going through the divorce.
