Description:

Tax preparers face no shortage of ethical mandates, including but not limited to penalty provisions within the Internal Revenue Code("IRC"). 2018 and 2019 were not lacking in key changes in those ethical requirements. This ethical program will cover a recap of key ethical concerns facing tax return preparers, including critical provisions and changes to the IRC like sections 6694, 6695, 6700, and 6701. The program will also provide a detailed review of areas for future ethical scrutiny, including cros-over concerns with the Bank Secrecy Act ("BSA").

Presenter:

Kevan McLaughlin, JD, LLM is a Certified Tax Law Specialist and an adjunct professor at SDSU's Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy.
Kevan McLaughlin's, JD, LLM, law practice focuses on civil and criminal tax controvery and litigation matters. In addition to representing taxpayers before the IRS, FTB, CDTFA, EDD, CUIAB, U.S. Tax Court and Department of Justice in civil and criminal matters. McLuaghlin has a unique practice defending accounting professionals accused of violating various statutes and regulations before the California Board of Accountancy (CBA), the IRS, and the IRS's Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). McLaughlin teaches "Ethics for Accountants" at SDSU's Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy and serves on the Executive Committee of the California Lawyers Association Section of Taxation.
