Topic: A Preparer's Approach to Section 199A Simplified, Schedule A and 529 Pros and Cons

Our Workshop will cover the Section 199A 20% business deduction which is the most complex provision of the new tax code. It is essential to understand how it is calculated and also important to understand how the deduction is affected on an entity level. Does the taxpayer need to make changes? What are some ways to increase the deduction? The topic will be discussed with a understandable simplified approach using a step by step process and hands on examples. We will also have hands on the most affected tax codes which is the Schedule A and 529. We will review the old rules and what miscellaneous deductions will still be allowed, then go over the new rules and discuss how this will be implemented on the tax return. We will review what California conforms to, and how to show these differences on the new (3) page California [CA Form].
