The secret to preparing a thorough and accurate business tax return is to start with a good set of balanced financial statements. Then the figures are easily transferred to the tax return, and the return can be reconciled back to the statements.Join us as we dive into the two financial statements – the Profit & Loss, or Income Statement, and the Balance Sheet – that make up the business tax return. We’ll identify the basic structure of financial statements, and the information they convey. Then we’ll learn how to prepare them, using hands-on exercises and case studies.Once we have a set of balanced financial statements, we’ll use them to prepare business tax returns – C corporations, S corporations and Partnerships – by hand, Throughout, we’ll demonstrate various ways to check our work. Finally, we’ll consider what to do if the client doesn’t have financial statements and how we can still prepare an accurate business tax return.
