Overview of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Including changes to Individual, Business and Pass Through Taxes. Changes to Individual tax rates, standard and itemized deductions. Changes to above the line deductions. Changes to credits. Changes to Business taxes and Pass through taxes.

Presenters: Allison D.H. Soares, Partner and Brendan O'Connor, Senior Associate Attorney

Allison D.H. Soares, is a Partner at RJS. As a lawyer, she has representative experience defending individuals and entities before the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Employment Development Department (EDD), and State Board of Equalization (SBOE). In addition to having a JD and Master of Laws in Taxation, Ms. Soares has an MBA in Forensic Accounting. Ms. Soares advises an array of clients on complex business transactions and has an in-depth knowledge of corporate, contract, and tax law. Currently, Ms. Soares provides information to clients regarding avoidance or resolution of problems with federal, state, and local taxing authorities. Ms. Soares is also an adjunct professor at San Diego State University teaching a course on Tax Procedures, Practice and Ethics at the Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy. In 2015, 2016, and 2017, she was name Best of the Bar by the San Diego Business Journal.

Brendan O’Connor is a Senior Associate Attorney at RJS LAW. In addition to being an attorney, Mr. O’Connor is also a Certified Public Accountant. He holds both a Master of Science in Taxation and a Master of Laws in Taxation. Mr. O’Connor’s practice centers on representing individuals and businesses before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Employment Development Department (EDD), and State Board of Equalization (SBOE). Mr. O’Connor has extensive experience in the field of tax controversy, litigation, and domestic and international tax planning. Prior to joining RJS LAW, Mr. O’Connor was a Senior Associate at Ernst & Young where he was an integral part of the firm’s tax planning and compliance practice for high net worth individuals and multinational businesses. He also has a vast knowledge of accounting practices from his work with local San Diego companies such as Pace Shave, Considine & Considine, UTC Aerospace, and Sempra Energy where he managed various accounting and tax matters
