Marijuana Taxation in California
On January 1, 2018 California became the ninth state in the U.S. to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. With over 40 million people living in California, this state is home to the largest legal market for marijuana in the country. The purpose of this course is to provide practitioners with a basic understanding of the unique tax implications and reporting requirements of deal "cannabis based" businesses. In this course you will learn:
- Challenges with case intensive businesses
- What is IRC 280E
- Form 8300 reporting requirements
- Learn about sales, excise and cultivation taxes applicable in California

William E Rogers
William E Rogers is the founder of ASCEND a small tax and financial firm in San Diego, California. A Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter and an Enrolled Agent. He has a degree in Business Management a Masters in Business Admin and a Masters of Science in Finance. Past President of North County Chapter of C.S.T.C. and past president of the Palomar Chapter of California Society of Enrolled Agents. Mr. Rogers specializes in advising small and medium sized companies. He is experienced in counseling businesses in a broad range of areas such as tax, operations, finance, accounting, employee benefits, and human resources. Over the past 12 years he has developed an expertise in advising e-commerce businesses. He has been instrumental in establishing a boutique practice that supports the needs of Internet based companies. He has been a featured speaker for the Learning Annex, The California Society of Tax Consultants, and the California Society of Enrolled Agents.
