Topic: Recent Tax Law Changes for Real Estate Owners

This course is designed to inform Tax Professionals serving the real estate industry of the recent changes to the tax laws, focusing on four major provisions of the final legislation: 1) Qualified Opportunity Zones; Update on the Changes to 1031 Exchanges; Expansion of Section 179 expensing; and the in depth discussion on updated Cost Recovery methods, including how it applies to 2017 and 2018 returns.

Presenter: Rhett Gagon, Regional Director - California office

Rhett Gagon is Regional Director over California and Southern Utah for Cost Segregation Authority. Much of Rhett's professional career has involved working personally with high net-worth individuals; training and speaking at conferences on a local, regional and national level. Rhett's expertise in Cost Segregation began in 2010 when he joined the Cost Segregation Authority team. Now primarily responsible for major clients, education and business development in California, he enjoys the client interaction most of all. Since 2010 he has worked on numerous Cost Segregation projects valuing hundreds of millions in commercial and rental property. Rhett Gagon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University. He is an active member of CalCPA, and is enthusiastically involved with two statewide committees for the same.
