Description:

This class introduces tax professionals to the notion of Ethics as different from any moral framework of “right” or “wrong” but rather within the framework of Circular 230 which governs our behavior as tax preparers in general, and Enrolled Agents in particular. Whether you are or are not subject to its provisions, this class explores how following Circular 230 is essential for protecting yourself and your reputation as a tax professional.

Learning Objective: This class helps students in developing a working understanding of key sections of Circular 230 for use throughout a tax practice, including: Interviewing clients; Handling client information; How we treat our clients; Charging for your work; Addressing Conflicts of Interest inherent in a tax practice; Practice standards for tax professionals; Requirements and procedures for tax professionals; Consequences of unethical conduct; and Avoiding Section 6695 preparer penalties.
